Dear Colleague,
I am writing to you to draw your attention to the APT Awards for Excellence in DBT. I wonder whether you would like to apply for it, either on your own behalf or on behalf of your service?
These annual awards were established to keep people 'enthused' and thinking about how they can apply DBT in their practice. The application process is simple: just 1,000 words (maximum), describing what makes you or your service a deserving recipient of such an award, the preparedness to discuss what you have written if necessary, and the willingness to have your submission published on our website if it is one of the winners. There is no fixed limit to the number of recipients, although each recipient must be truly worthy of the award.
The benefit of receiving the award is primarily in satisfaction and status. The tangible benefits are: a certificate which states your receipt of the award; the entitlement to put the words “Recipient of the APT Award for Excellence in DBT 2018” on your letters / emails if you wish; and your submission will be published on our website if it is one of the winners.
How to enter. You can apply personally, or on behalf of your service. All you do is to submit up to 1,000 words describing why you deserve an award – remember it is the ‘excellence in DBT’ award. What we will be looking for is as follows: (A) a description of an intervention with a patient or group of patients, (B) the intervention will feature DBT largely, although not necessarily being the only intervention you make with this patient / patient-group, (C) what you describe should “inspire” other people who read it – they should have ideas they want to implement in their practice too. You may include ‘testimonials’ if you wish – good things that others (patients or their relatives, or your colleagues) have written about your work. You should be prepared to be contacted to discuss your entry if necessary.
The awards are made annually, and the closing date for submissions is the last day of July 2018. So, if you would like to submit an entry, there is no formal "application form". Simply compose up to 1,000 words covering what is described above, then send it to me at APT.
Sadly, if you are not successful there is no feedback involved as to why not; however, I hope you will want to enter for the award, and I wish you the best of luck in doing so.
With best wishes,
Dr William Davies BSc, PhD, CPsychol
Academic Director, APT .
